Projects

Yellow is a project that emerged following a breakup. It served as a definition and visualization of the space and situation we were in, and perhaps, still occupy. Much of its meaning was unclear to me during the process, but after completing the drawing, I began to understand it better.

The core element of the work is a tunnel between two spaces—symbolizing two people. This tunnel is narrow, emphasizing the fragile and constrained connection they share. To physically experience this connection and the emotional state it represents, participants would need to sleep in opposite directions, far apart, so that only their heads could touch or feel each other through the tunnel. This design forces a sense of distance and closeness simultaneously, reflecting the complexities of relationships.

Through extensive studies and building a 1:1 scale model of the space, I confronted the unsettling aspect of the idea—particularly the sense of someone hiding inside. The structure's lack of ventilation made it difficult to breathe, heightening the discomfort and fear embedded in the concept.

This work also connected to my participation in a summer school organized by the Breda Art Association, led by Bambi van Balen. There, we explored the process of constructing inflatables, which informed my approach to structuring and experimenting with space. The experience reinforced my understanding of materiality, scale, and the psychological impact of confined spaces.

Yellow reflects on intimacy, separation, and vulnerability. It questions the spaces we create for ourselves and others and highlights the tension between safety and suffocation in shared emotional environments.

This Project along with Blue and White, reflects on how our connections and relationships shape the future. It considers the role of thought patterns in constructing environments and imagines a future where safe spaces are dynamic rather than static. They highlight the paradox of isolation as a means to feel—both individually and collectively—examining how boundaries enable deeper connections and awareness.
